Cyberpunk ripples

Fucking hell, I thought these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsule_hotel) were a product of William Gibson's twisted imagination. Then I find a reference to them in Kim Stanley Robinson's 'Red Mars'. Japan is a scary place.
